Being the last U-Series ever built, 2203 was delivered as Conrail 2798 (part of Conrail’s first order of new locomotives) and operated on CR until it was sold to Providence & Worcester in the early 1990s and renumbered 2203. Shortly after being retired from P&W in 2002, the 2203 was acquired by the Naugatuck Railroad, and was moved to its property in 2003. The locomotive is primarily used for freight service but sees occasional use on the railroad's passenger trains.

This locomotive is viewable while in excursion and freight service.
